Belotero - A New Clear Gel Filler for Fine Lines to Deep Creases

Notice - Major Savings on fillers

A new wrinkle filling gel developed in Switzerland, Belotero, has been added to the selection patients have for correcting lines, wrinkles and augmenting the lips and other areas.

What is Belotero?

Belotero is a clear, colorless hyaluronic gel similar to existing dermal fillers, but has a unique creation process that is said to provide more “elastic” properties. One of the natural functions of hyaluronic acid is to help provide structural form and shape to the external features of the body. This property of hyaluronic acid is the basis for BELOTERO BALANCE’s effectiveness as a dermal filler.

Approved by the FDA in November, 2011, Belotero is just now becoming available in physician offices. Belotero is a product of Merz Aesthetic, providers of Xeomin wrinkle relaxer and Radiesse.

How long does Belotero last?

The effect will depend on the individual and the area that has been treated. In clinical studies 66% of patients continued to show a visible improvement 9 months after a single treatment. Most patients opt for follow-up treatments after 6 to 12 months to maintain a fresh, youthful appearance.

Will I be able to feel the product in my skin?

Belotero integrates so readily into your own tissue that unlike some other fillers, you are unlikely to feel the implant when you touch the treated area. This is especially important in areas like your lips, where you will want to see the results but not necessarily feel anything different.

Belotero can be used for

  • Lip enhancement
  • Deep folds
  • Revolumizing temple area
  • Facial lines
  • Wrinkle correction on the face, neck and chest
  • Augmentation of the lips
  • Shaping facial contours (such as cheeks and chin correcting)
  • Smile lines (correcting thin, superficial lines around the eyes, mouth and forehead)

The Smoother Solution

Belotero is the world's first monophasic hyaluronic acid dermal filler with patented CPM technology

·   Cohesive polydensified Matrix technology sets Belotero apart from conventional biphasic hyaluronic  acid fillers

·   CPM technology is based on a dynamic double cross linking of the monophasic hyaluronic strands with the stabilizer BDDE (1-4 Butanediol Diglycidyl Ether)

 ·   Belotero’s unique structure completely fills the dermal spaces and produces a lasting natural cosmetic effect with smooth transitions between treated and untreated areas

Hyaluronic Acid Background

Physicians have been developing ways to restore volume and structure to aging skin using a variety of approaches for over 100 years. Past fillers included paraffin, silicone and collagen injections.

In the 1930s, researchers discovered a natural substance in the body that they named hyaluronic acid, and they found that it plays a key role in numerous areas of the body including the maintenance of skin volume and hydration, eye volume and shape and joint lubrication and cushioning.

In the decades since, numerous therapeutic and aesthetic uses have been developed for this versatile natural substance. In 2003, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the first hyaluronic acid dermal filler for the correction of facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds (the folds running from the sides of the bottom of the nose to the outer corners of the mouth).

Today, hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers are the fastest growing non-invasive aesthetic procedure in the United States, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.1

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a natural complex sugar found throughout all living organisms that retains water -- absorbing more than 1,000 times its weight -- and adds volume to the skin’s surface. In addition, hyaluronic acid binds with collagen and elastin and transports essential nutrients to these fibers. The triple combination of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid provides structure, elasticity and volume to the skin and contributes to its overall appearance.

As the skin ages and is exposed to environmental pollutants and ultraviolet rays, the cells lose the ability to produce hyaluronic acid. As a result, the skin begins to lose volume, often resulting in the formation of facial wrinkles and folds. Dermal fillers compromised of crossed-linked hyaluronic acid are used by physicians to help temporarily replace lost hyaluronic acid and to restore skin volume and a smooth, natural appearance.

What is cross-linked hyaluronic acid?

In its natural form, unbound hyaluronic acid forms a liquid made of highly-hydrated individual polymers (chains) that are metabolized in the body in just 12 hours. Cross-linking refers to a process in which the individual chains of hyaluronic acid are chemically bound (or “cross-linked”) together, transforming the liquid hyaluronic acid into a soft solid, or “gel.” The firmness of the gel depends on the degree of cross-linking of the individual hyaluronic acid chains. The body metabolizes cross-linked hyaluronic acid more slowly, resulting in a longer duration of effect when hyaluronic acid is used therapeutically.
