Your LAVIV Process - Step 1

• We use YOUR skin cells to begn the process. Dr. Pilest will take small skin samples from behind your ear with the use of a local anesthetic
• These skin samples are sent to Fibrocell Science, the makers of LAVIV™
• Using a state-of-the-art process, Fibrocell Science expands your fibroblasts from your skin sample into millions of new fibroblast cells. These cells then undergo a comprehensive quality control process to be sure they are active and ready to go to work once injected into your skin.
• All of your cells are cryopreserved (frozen) and those that are not immediately used are stored at Fibrocell Science’s FDA-inspected manufacturing facility for future use
• Following the development and quality control processes, your personalized LAVIV™ therapy will be ready in approximately 3 months

Treatment with your LAVIV cells - Step 2

You will receive 3 separate sessions of LAVIV™ injections from Dr. Pilest. These treatment sessions are spaced at intervals of 3 to 6 weeks.

Using a small needle, Dr. Pilest will inject LAVIV™ directly into the lines and wrinkles to be treated. You will receive 3 injections of LAVIV™, spaced at intervals of 3 to 6 weeks.  (When patients were assessed 6 months after the third and final treatment, LAVIV had effectively improved the appearance of smile line wrinkles.)

Live Cell Viability
***It is very important that you arrive on time and as scheduled for your treatment sessions. If you need to miss an appointment, you must notify the office no later than 2 days prior to your scheduled appointment to reschedule. Your LAVIV™ therapy is made up of live collagen-producing fibroblast cells. If you miss a treatment session, your LAVIV™ cells will expire and must be thrown out.

How fast will I see results?

Remember that LAVIV is made up of your fibroblasts. These are the cells that make new collagen and they require time to form that new collagen. The younger you are, the quicker you'll see results; the average time from injection to when you see the changes is usually only a few months and you'll see continued gradual improvements for 6 months to a year after the third injection. Some patients see results after the 1st injection; others will not until after the 2nd or 3rd.

How long will those results last?

Each of us has a different "body clock" and some patients will see results that last close to a year; others about 6 months. Age affects all body processes, collagen longevity included, so if you're on the more mature side, you may need touch up treatments sooner and a little more frequently.

How many treatments can I get from the original tissue sample?

Literally tens of millions of new fibrobast cells are created. The tissue cells are cryopreserved (FDA has acknowledged 42 months but cryopreservation can maintain viable cells for decades) and can be called back into action at any time. Need or want more of your own fibroblasts? It's as simple as placing a request for more to be prepared.

What are the ingredients in LAVIV™?

 LAVIV™ is made from your own collagen-producing cells (fibroblasts) and is composed of at least 98% pure fibroblasts placed in a mixture of water, sugars, vitamins, amino acids, and salts. Antibiotics (amphotericin and gentamicin), bovine serum (from cattle), and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) are used during processing. Trace amounts of these ingredients may be present in LAVIV™.  If you have a known sensitivity to any of these ingredients,  please let us know.
