The AlexLAZR by Candela Laser is a specialty laser used to remove a variety of pigments in the skin, whether naturally-occurring or implanted into the skin by tattooing. This laser targets and removes:

  • black, blue, and green and other tattoo colors
  • brown and dark-colored naturally produced pigmented lesions
  • congenital bluish or black birthmarks

The AlexLAZR's (alexandrite laser) special wavelength maximizes beam penetration providing optimal results in the reduction and removal of surface pigmentation as well as deeper pigmented lesions like Nevus of Ota. A gentle laser, the AlexLAZR does not cause " hot spots" common with other lasers. This minimizes discomfort and adverse effects while reducing the chance of skin texture changes and risk of tissue damage such as bruising.

Asian and Ethnic Skin Treatment
Asian skin is highly sensitive to heat and often hyper-pigmentation can result from improperly chosen devices and poor administration of laser treatment. Various specialized lasers such as the AlexLAZR now offer desirable treatment outcomes to ethnic skin types without the risks associated with other "general" laser devices. Laser technology is specific in its ability to treat various problems.

Laser Selection
The AlexLAZR is an especially welcome addition to the laser family that solves very specific skin pigmentation problems in a safe and desirable way. Although many lasers have multiple uses, no single laser can effectively or safely treat every skin concern. It is useful, if not crucial, for patients to know and understand this concept and carefully select a physician who uses specific lasers for specific problems. Used improperly or by a poorly skilled technician, laser treatment can result in poor results, unnecessary discomfort, increased pigmentation or even scarring.

Dr. Pilest is a frequent educator of other physicians in the use of specialized lasers and is sought after by a number of the leading laser device manufacturers to provide proper educational instruction. Knowledge and experience play a vital role in the outcome of any dermatological procedure.

Freckles, Pigmented Lesions and Solar Lentigines
Freckles, sun-induced "spots" on the chest and arms and patchy areas on the face and body can be removed by AlexLAZR treatments. Although freckles( light-brown flat spots) are most frequently observed in individuals with red or blond hair and blue or gray eyes, freckles are also common to Asian people, including Koreans. The Q-switched alexandrite laser is a safe and highly effective method for removing freckles and solar lentigines without scarring or permanent changes in Asian skin.

Freckles and pigmented lesions respond the fastest to this treatment and often in only a few sessions become unnoticeable.

Tattoo Removal
Previous to lasers, tattoo removal was accomplished only by painful removal of the skin tissue, resulting in scars that were sometimes worse than the tattoos themselves. Surgical excisions, with the tattooed area being removed by a scalpel, was a primary procedure. The other method was dermabrasion, a process in which the skin is removed by a rotating steel brush. Both excision and dermabrasion were painful and could take months for complete removal of the tattoos and resulted in long healing time and more often than not, disfiguring scars.

The Q-switched alexandrite laser is highly effective in removing multi-colored professional and amateur tattoos without adverse effects. The number of sessions required are dependant upon the size and color range of the tattoo.

(Since 50% of people later regret having tattoos, it is best to avoid getting tattoos without thought to how you will be impacted later in life. Tattooing can be dangerous if performed without scrupulous detail to safety and hygiene and the process of depositing the pigment used is always painful.)

Nevus of Ota
Nevus of Ota is a genetic pigmented lesion of the face, generally present at birth or surfacing during adolescence. Most common in Asian populations, this dark gray or bluish "birthmark" can be esthetically and psychologically disfiguring. Because of its size and location, Nevus of Ota has previously been notoriously difficult to treat. The AlexLAZR is the #1 safe and superior solution.

After 4-8 treatments, skin pigmentation is dramatically removed in 90-100% of cases of Nevus of Ota.

How it works
The pigment in the lesion or the tattoo absorbs the energy of the laser. The wavelengths of the laser light are adjustable to target a variety of colors. Laser light is absorbed by the pigment, which is shattered into small pieces. The immune system cells of the body then carry these fragmented pieces away, allowing them to be removed by the body's natural processes.

Safety
The AlexLazr is a safe, non-ablative laser and does not cause burns, skin destruction or skin removal.
