Fraxel Re:pair - Fractional CO2 Laser
"It's had an amazing effect on my skin--particularly around my eyes, both texture and firming! Total lifting all over from chest to forehead. For the first time in my adult life I do not need foundation makeup. People have noticed a difference--saying I look really good; but no one has asked what I have had "done"! Deborah, Total Dermatology Fraxel Repair Patient

As a recognized laser specialist Dr. Pilest has been chosen by Reliant Technologies to provide training for other physicians who wish to learn correct Fraxel Re:Pair procedure.
Getting the results you want, and the results we want for you, demands a level of treatment energies that may be a little more rigorous that some patients want to undergo.
Now we offer all Fraxel Repair treatments the option of in-office under pain management oral and injection options - or in a surgical suite under anesthesiologist care ( within our same building.)
With a certified anesthesiologist, Dr. Pilest can provide the treatment levels which have been established to give the best results - without the anxiety and associated discomfort. You will be asleep during the short procedure, bypassing all treatment-related pain and allowing a full level treatment uninterrupted by unexpected heat sensations.
Feel free to discuss these options with Dr. Pilest during your consultation.
Healing is quick with most patients experiencing on average a 3 to 5 day healing downtime. Following 2nd treatments, healing has proven to be even quicker. Redness lasts from 1 to 4 weeks on average, though varying levels of pinkness may last longer which can be balanced by use of a mineral makeup. With the Fraxel Re:pair there has been no scarring and no hypo pigmentation (pigment loss) which was a problem with older laser technology.
The most frequent noted side effect has been transient hyperpigmentation which is more common in patients with darker skin types such as those with Asian, Mediterranean and South American ancestry. Post treatment pigmentation is managed with melanin suppressors which typically include hydroquinone.
The new Re:pair system allows area treatments without the telltale demarcation, so even having a small area around the lips means there is no "white - out" that told the world you'd had a skin laser procedure.
Note: Because the Fraxel Re:pair affects deep dermal tissue (this is what makes it so effective) this laser treatment is not usually performed immediately after dermal wrinkle fillers. Be sure to discuss your recent dermal filler placements with Dr. Pilest prior to any laser treatment. Usually we recommend waiting a week between having fillers and laser treatments.
Fraxel re:pair laser system received the industry's first FDA 510(K) clearance for a fractional ablative laser system for treatment of wrinkles, furrows, fine lines, textural irregularities, pigmented areas and vascular discoloration.

Fraxel Re:store, which has been our flagship resurfacing system since the beginning of fractional technology, is an over all moderate-level treatment for pigmentation, skin tone, lines and acne scarring which requires multiple sessions for adequate improvement.
Fraxel re:pair treatment does involve healing downtime, usually 3 to 5 days depending on the energy strength and depth of laser delivery required. There may be slightly more social downtime while skin coloration and any swelling is resolving.
"Fraxel has definitely improved the look of my skin. I no longer feel the need to wear makeup. I have gained back my self confidence with how good my skin looks! Dr. Pilest is my hero! Thank you so much!" - Bonnie Balsz, Age 42 - Fraxel Repair patient October, 2009
Fraxel Information from Solta Medical Technologies
The Fraxel re:pair system provides the industry's first and only Fractional Deep Dermal Ablation (FDDA(TM)) treatment, which leads to tissue contraction, tightening and collagen remodeling. The Fraxel re:pair laser removes and eliminates aged and damaged skin without the prolonged downtime and adverse reactions associated with conventional ablative resurfacing lasers (also known as CO2 or erbium YAG lasers) and surgical procedures.
The Fraxel Re:pair system treats a portion of the skin's surface and leaves the surrounding areas intact to allow for rapid healing. With FDDA treatment, the skin is ablated and coagulated in deep (up to 1.6 mm) columns called Microscopic Treatment Zones (MTZ). The Fraxel re:pair laser's high speed optics allow these MTZ to be spaced across the skin's surface to provide even, thorough tissue tightening for effective resurfacing.
Reliant Technologies, Inc.,(now Solta Medical) the pioneer of fractional skin resurfacing and market leader in aesthetic medicine, today announced that its Fraxel re:pair laser system has received the industry's only FDA 510(K) clearance for a fractional ablative laser system for treatment of wrinkles, rhytides, furrows, fine lines, textural irregularities, pigmented lesions and vascular dyschromia.
The Fraxel re:pair system, initially cleared for ablation, coagulation and skin resurfacing in May, 2007, becomes the only fractional ablative resurfacing system cleared by the FDA for specific indications of use.
Physician Comments on Fraxel Re:pair
Zakia Rahman, Stanford University
"For patients who have spent years in the sun or smoking and wish to have tighter, smoother, and more even skin tone, the Fraxel Re:pair laser provides a safe and effective resurfacing solution."
A. Jay Burns, University of Texas Southwest Medical Center
Christopher Zachary - Department of Dermatology UC Irvine
"The Fraxel re:pair system produces significant tissue tightening, wrinkle reduction and textural improvement, both on and off the face."
The Fraxel re:pair laser is a minimally invasive, ablative fractional laser system that delivers treatments at depths from 300 micrometers to 1.6 mm into the dermis.
For more severe rhytides and furrows the Fraxel Re:pair stimulates new collagen and elastin production deep into the dermis. Treatment is delivered with the safety and proven efficacy of the Fraxel brand.
Its advanced optics can deliver thousands of microscopic treatment zones up to 2.5 times faster than any other ablative fractional device It is also the only system clinically demonstrated to create zones of treatment beyond 1.5 mm that are spaced evenly across the skins surface. In one treatment session, the Fraxel re:pair treatment results thorough tissue tightening, a uniform appearance and effective resurfacing.
"Unlike other devices on the market, only the Fraxel re:pair system uses state-of-the-art technology that integrates the proprietary Fraxel Intelligent Optical Tracking system with a CO2 laser source. With just one hand piece, physicians can now effectively treat a broad range of conditions." - Source Reliant Technologies
