Hair Removal History

In the past, the usual remedies for unwanted hair were plucking, shaving, waxing, or chemical depilatories. Some are painful, some are messy, and all are only temporary. Does skin color make a difference in the results?
The GentleMax has the flexibility to provide a customized treatment. Many earlier lasers were not suitable for all patients. Skins which had potential for post-treatment pigmentation found it difficult to get the results they were after. This laser eliminates the risks previously associated with hair removal on ethnic or darker skin tones.

What are the treatments like?
GentleMax delivers light energy in a non-invasive manner to hundreds of hair follicles simultaneously. A specialized cooling pulse reduces discomfort during the treatment. A pulse of light is delivered to an area of the skin. The laser treatment may last a few minutes to an hour or more, depending on the size of the area being treated. Lasers can remove hair from all parts of the body including lips, cheeks, legs, arms, underarms, and back.

Are treatments painful?
Some patients experience a mild sting or pinch. It can feel like a small snap of a rubber band. No local anesthesia or pain medication is required, however, a topical anesthesia cream may be applied to skin one hour prior to treatment to minimize any pain.

A special feature of the GentleMax lasers is the patented cooling system. Immediately before and after each laser pulse, a cryogen spray super-cools the top layer of skin.

How many treatments are required?
More than one treatment may be necessary depending on the area you wish to have treated. Some factors include hair density, and your own hair’s growth cycle. Age, diet, ethnicity, weight, hormones, medication, and metabolism all may effect your hair’s location, thickness, and resilience.

Are there any side effects?
Short-term side effects may include redness and swelling around the hair follicle, which indicates that the hair follicle has responded to the treatment. Most people return to normal activity directly after the procedure. Side effects disappear within hours of treatment.

Is it important where I go for laser hair removal?
Absolutely. Inadequately trained technicians can cause permanent scarring, hyperpgimentation and disfigurement. Always make sure the person who is performing any laser treatment has the required training and experience as well as the correct laser for your skin type and color.

Are there any precautions or restrictions after treatment?
After treatment, you may return to normal activities. You may be advised to use a formulated skin care product after your laser treatment. Sunscreen must be used on any treated areas exposed to the sun. Limiting sun exposure is best.

How should I prepare for my treatment?
You may shave the day before. It is not recommended that you wax of pluck hair prior to treatment. Although having done so will not mean you cannot have a laser hair reduction treatment, best results are obtained if you don't. Once your treatment series has begun, we urge you to completely stop both waxing and plucking.
