Cheek augmentation using Radiesse
delivers a two-fold advantage. First, the flattened cheek area is
raised to a more youthful position. (Unfortunately cheek flattening
is something that happens to all of as we age, partly due to some
natural bone loss and partly due to facial fat loss).
The second positive aspect is that
this lifting also decreases the depth of the nasolabial fold. You can
easily see how this takes place by pulling gently upward on the skin
over your cheekbone.
The effects are subtle and look
completely natural. (Note: These are my personal photos. I also used Radiesse to soften the
profile of my nose. A little difficult to see
here, but a slight width increase in the more narrow areas has given my
entire face a less angular appearance. Aging is all about angles and
roundness, so by rounding some of the sharper contours, I've been able
to create a more youthful facial map.)

These photos were taken one week
apart. Trying to accomplish cheek augmentation from the outside would
have led to bruising which can take up to two weeks to go away.
Remember... we are placing Radiesse quite deep within the skin, so it is
only natural for this bruising to occur with traditional techniques.
Not so with the intra-oral injections.
Cheek augmentation requires a
substantial amount of product, making external injection a more
difficult process in achieving a smooth contour. In my opinion, the
final result shown in the picture above using the intra-oral filling and
lifting of the cheek looks smoother than what I had observed (and
experienced) from previous techniques.

Does it Hurt?
With the Intra-Oral technique,
injections are nearly pain-free and objectively more comfortable than injections made through the skin. A local anesthetic may be used if desired.
Since all the "needle work" is done
inside the mouth, the outer skin tissue is not traumatized - which means
no bruising and no needle marks. You may feel some slight soreness
inside your mouth, but this goes away very quickly and does not cause
any problems.

discernable cheek flattening, a simple dermal fill for those heavy folds
