About Radiesse

Radiesse is the longest-lasting injectable non-permanent, non-surgical implant material. Because of its components and duration, Radiesse is more aptly referred to as an implant rather than a filler. It is used for soft tissue augmentation in the correction of deep facial folds and creases and restoration of volume loss in hollow facial areas. View Physician Comments on Radiesse

Because it has lengthy duration and is easily shaped it is perfect injectable product for use in the nose and cheek area. An effective cheek augmentation implant-alternative the results are smooth and natural-looking. Prone to bruising? New techniques using smooth tipped microcannulas virtually eliminate both bruising and pain.

The tiny microspheres provide a scaffolding into which the body's own tissue can grow and maintain the implant in place.

Radiesse has proven to be a very versatile facial contouring product and has demonstrated durable augmentation in areas such as chin and cheek where a larger volume is required. It maintains a soft, natural feel and takes on the characteristics of the surrounding skin tissue.

Dr. Pilest has found Radiesse to be particularly well-suited for long-lasting correction of deep nasolabial folds. Results typically last 9 to 12 months (often longer in some patients).

Latest Technique
Using state-of-the-art injection techniques, Dr. Pilest is performing Radiesse corrections without needles. Nasolabial folds, cheek augmentation and the previously difficult correction of under-eye hollows are now comfortably and safely made with rounded tip tiny cannulas instead of sharp needles.

Injections of your Radiesse are then painless, with no bruising and no surface needle marks. There are no tell-tale signs to indicate you have had a cosmetic treatment. You will simply look better and more youthful. One added plus of the cheek augmentative injections is the reduction of nasolabial folds as the skin is "lifted".

Dr. Pilest urges patients who are looking into the longer term filler products to be particularly vigilant in selecting a physician.

"The injection technique with this material is critically important. Respect these fillers, they do not readily forgive a mistake." Elson, M., MD Advances in Healthy Aging

Radiesse MEF Certificate

Radiesse consists of calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres suspended in gel (carboxymethylcellulose). Because calcium hydroxylapatite is a normal constituent of bone, it should not elicit a chronic inflammatory or immune response. Additionally, Radiesse does not require allergy testing. Radiesse is an effective non-surgical treatment which provides immediate smoothing out of wrinkles and most scars.

The microspheres of CaHA have been shown to last up to seven years clinically. Radiesse should provide a long lasting correction, however individual results may vary, affected by age, skin type, lifestyle and muscle activity.

What areas respond best to Radiesse treatments?

  • Nasolabial Folds ( Laugh lines )
  • Marionette Lines
  • Chin & Cheek Augmentation
  • Depressed scars
  • Restore bulk to aging tissues

What are Radiesse treatments like?

A simple out-patient procedure, it is performed with a simple injected anesthesia in the physician's office and takes about 15 minutes.

Injection pain is minimized or eliminated by use of smooth tip microcannulas. Following the procedure, patients may immediately return back to daily activities, however, treatment sights may be swollen for 1-2 days. There is also a small potential for bruising at the injection sight, which may be covered with makeup.

How long will the results last?

Depending on the areas treated, most of the correction may last for many months, or even years. Dr. Pilest's patients usually see results that last between 9 to 12 months. Touch up treatments may be necessary to maintain desired correction.

Can other filler products be used along with Radiesse?

Restylane, Juvederm, Cosmoderm or other dermal fillers may be used as layers to fill the more superficial lines and wrinkles. There is no restriction to using additional fillers. Radiesse is not used in our office for lip augmentation to prevent the possibility of nodules which could form in the lip.
