Acne? Why mess around and suffer? Get the treatment you need so you can get on with your life.
As a dermatologist in Irvine, I see a lot of suffering. Your skin is ‘out there’ and when it doesn’t look good – or hurts, your life can be miserable.
Luckily, there are adequate solutions for most skin ailments. Sometimes the solution is simple; other times complicated.
Acne is one of the more complicated ailments because it’s not something you can fix once and then it’s gone. Acne doesn’t just go away because we wish it so. There is no “cure” for acne other than time (sometimes that’s a LONG time).
But there is control. And that’s where YOU have control. If you have acne that bothers you and that keeps rearing its ugly head, there’s no sense in suffering. There are some very effective topical prescriptions that will work for those with persistent mild to light moderate acne. You owe it to yourself to get some relief.
Like the video says, there are a lot of useless beliefs about what will tame your acne. Don’t waste your time trying home remedies that do little more than prolong your misery. Learn more about acne and treatments here.
If you’re new to the acne and pimple world and things are pretty mild, it can be sensible to try some of the programs from the drugstore – If you have dramatic acne or pimples are too tender to touch, bypass that step and go directly to a derm.
Look for the key ingredients benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. The 3 step regimens you see in drug store kits usually include a cleanser, an exfoliant and a treatment. Be diligent. If they don’t show some sustained improvement in a reasonable time period – max 2 weeks, put them away and see your dermatologist for products that will work.
Drug store kits/products that are reasonably effective: Neutrogena is affordable and there is a lot of science behind their products. Olay has a 3 step kit as well. Just remember to hang on to your purchase receipts. Most drug stores have a refund policy for products that don’t work for you.
If you don’t want to spend time on trial and error or you’ve been unsuccessful with over-the-counter programs, step it up and see a *board certified dermatologist. Acne control is a big part of what all dermatologists do.
*Board certification is more than a term. You can verify a doctor’s board status here – and you should!
