Let’s Hear It for the Boys – Men and Cosmetic “Work”

An article from the American Academy of Dermatology’s website cites the upsurge in men seeking many of the same cosmetic treatments women have embraced for decades. The reasons have a distinctly different underlying reason.

The SoCal Man – Aware

This change in men’s awareness of the benefits of looking more competent hasn’t gone unnoticed in our practice at all. Southern California men are perhaps as aware as any – even those hyper aware Wall Streeters in New York where appearance is always a big factor.

Looking tired, drawn or past prime can be a serious negative in maintaining status in careers; Some of the issue is not so much actual appearance, but the lessening of self confidence as a man sees his former looks that conveyed power begin to lessen. If you start off the day feeling like you look tired, then it’s a firm bet you’ll deliver at a less than optimum level.

The Big “Asks”

• We’ve seen a steady climb in Botox use in younger men who don’t want to be seen as anything other than cool, calm and collected.
• Fillers for the 30 plus set are now something men are no longer hesitant to ask for. Besides the ever popular filling under eye hollows, Dr. Pilest gets requests for a stronger jaw, a straighter nose, a more masculine chin – all that are easily provided through the use of dermal fillers.

Often it is the wife or girlfriend who helps begin the process. They too like for their man to look as good as he can.
