Skin Care – Does it matter who’s talking?
Did you know that in California any MD can buy and use a laser? or a syringe of dermal filler? Or powerful technology that’s literally dangerous in uneducated hands?
And that in some states an esthetician can do what only doctors can do here? Does knowledge from years and years of education and training not trump that of the spa girl who tells you that mole is nothing or your skin can “take” that 50% glycolic peel – even if you are on meds that are a direct contraindication?
I don’t suggest that all doctors outside of the dermatology or plastic surgery board certification umbrella aren’t capable, but when you are looking for advice about your skin and your body, be sure who you’re asking knows what he/she is talking about!
Any doctor can refer to herself or himself as a dermatology doctor, skin doctor, filler specialist or laser specialist. But that doesn’t mean they are an actual Dermatologist. The distinction matters. Board certification matters. Don’t sell your skin short by being careless in your physician choice.
Board Certified Dermatologists are certified by the American Board of Dermatology, recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialtiies. Dr. Nissan Pilest has been a Board Certified Dermatologist since 1979.
